From the Hangars

Looking Forward

Nov 07, 2024

As the weather turns cooler and holiday decorations hit the stores, we are thinking about everything that needs to be done before the end of the year. However, we’re not just thinking about parties and seeing families and friends. We’re thinking about the excitement 2025 holds!

We are closing our museum hangars mid-December through mid-March so we can refresh our exhibits and the museum experience. In March, we'll celebrate Delta’s centennial with the founding of Huff Daland Dusters, and in May, the 30th anniversary of the Delta Flight Museum. We look forward to sharing Delta’s role in the history of aviation and lifting humanity around us. Delta’s growth from a small crop-dusting operation to a global transportation company brought the world closer, and the hard work and determination of its people led to where we are today.

We began this project a while ago – planning the exhibits, scanning archival images, and conserving artifacts destined for display. This past summer, the hangars received some facilities improvements, including electrical, WiFi, paint, and carpet work, all in preparation for this winter.

As a museum visitor, we can’t wait for you to see our transformation. Beginning December 16th, the hangars and lobby will close to visitors, but the B747-400 plane & museum store will remain open for guests, tours, and events.

When we emerge from this renovation, spring will be upon us. You can expect new exhibits, new stories from the past, and a new museum experience overall. More to come. If you wish to see the current hangar aircraft or experience our B737-200 simulator, please do so soon as time is flying by!

To find out our hours on any given day or to purchase tickets online, please check our ticketing calendar.

As always, please think of us in your year-end donation plan. This is a major milestone project, and we would love for you to be part of it.  Your support is greatly appreciated. Click here to make your donation today.

We’ve got so much to do and so much to look forward to. Prepare for takeoff in early 2025!

@Jim, the brick locator kiosk can be found online at content.deltamuseum.org/brick-locator/.  In the DC-7B courtyard, you'll find an information panel with QR code which will take you to this site. Thank you for your support.

I hope the museum adds a larger section to celebrate Northwest’s history, a huge component of what made Delta what it is today (MSP and DTW hubs, focus in SEA, AMS operation with KLM, Airbus fleet, massive group of employees).
