The Delta Flight Museum's newest temporary exhibition tells the story of Delta Around the World. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Delta's first flight to London. It's incredible to think that between 1978 and 1991, Delta went from a single route across the Atlantic Ocean to having the most transatlantic flight of any U.S. airline. Today, Delta and
Delta Connection® serve 325 destinations in over 60 countries on six
continents.
This exhibition was sparked by a donation of artifacts from the family of Whit Hawkins, who served as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing during much of this period of expansion. He retired
in 1993 after serving on Delta’s Board of Directors, as President and Chief
Operating Officer.
Included in the donation was a collection of inaugural gifts that were given to employees, passengers and special guest when a new Delta route was created.
Share Your Story
We know that many current and retired Delta employees were part of this time of expansion and we want to hear your stories. We also want to hear stories from passengers that flew on some of these inaugural flights. If you would like to share send an email to museumarchives.delta@delta.com with subject line: Delta Around the World.
Delta Around the World will be on view until October 2018 and will be open to visitors whenever the Delta Flight Museum is open.
