The History of The Spirit of Delta

This exhibit tells the story of why The Spirit of Delta was such a special aircraft to Delta Air Lines.  It also highlights why the Boeing 767 was an important milestone in Delta’s fleet.  Photographs, memorabilia, airplane models, and aircraft parts are on view.

This exhibit explores the topics of Speed, Safety, Comfort, and going Across the Globe since Delta introduced jet service in 1959.  Items on display range from the familiar to the rare and are sure to bring back lots of memories.

Maintaining a Legacy: DC-3 Maintenance 1940-1960
Hangar One

This exhibit highlights tools used by Delta maintenance departments who worked on DC-3 airplanes in the 1940s and 1950s. Included are tools such as a lathe, metal cutters, brakes, and a sewing machine. In addition to the machines and tools on display, there are photographs of 1940s-1950s maintenance workers, reprints of articles from Delta Digests during those years, and Touch Stations inviting you to touch samples of what the machines do.

Coming Soon

The Spirit of Delta is a work in progress.  Coming soon will be permanent stairs and a wheelchair lift, a finished conference room that will serve as an event rental space for the Museum, and exhibits outside the aircraft.

Tour Schedule

The Spirit of Delta is open for visitors on Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon to 2pm. Come check out the Museum’s progress in this unusual exhibition space. Inside you’ll find two new exhibits that explore the story of this important aircraft and Delta’s jet age since 1959. Objects on display include vintage uniforms, aircraft models, and memorabilia.

In addition to Spirit tours, the Museum offers interior tours of the DC-3 on the second Tuesday of each month at noon.

The Museum is open to the public and is free of charge. Anyone interested in visiting, but does not have appropriate ID to get onto the Delta campus should contact the Museum at (404) 773-1219 or tiffany.m.meng@delta.com.

Mark your calendars: The Museum will host the 22nd Annual Atlanta Airline Collectibles Show & Sale on Saturday, October 18th from 9am to 4pm. This event will be open to the public and admission will be $5. More information will be able soon.
