Celebrating Veteran's Day with a new exhibit

Nov 08, 2023

In honor of Veteran’s Day, we have installed a temporary exhibit with artifacts that have never been displayed before at the museum. We are honoring the soldiers and pilots who braved the freezing cold weather by serving in Alaska & the Arctic during World War II.

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, only 119,550 of the 16.1 million Americans who served in World War II are still alive. They are now in their 90s and older.

For the last two years, Delta has partnered to provide a charter flight for World War II veterans to gather in Normandy, France. In France, they visit memorials, and attend ceremonies in their honor. Preserving their stories and honoring their service is a priority for Delta Air Lines & the Delta Flight Museum.

In this new temporary exhibit, you can see cold weather gear flown by pilots, and watch a slideshow featuring images from L. D. Carlson’s scrapbook. Carlson was stationed in Edmonton Alberta, Canada, and served as the Superintendent of Military Cargo Division overseeing employees who dealt with long hours and extreme low temperatures during World War II.

The exhibit features artifacts & stories representing Delta & its family of airlines including Western, Northwest and Northeast. Come see this new exhibit during open museum hours. Find out when we’re open here.
